Metropolitan Edison (Met-Ed) Bill Payment: Everything You Need to Know
Metropolitan Edison (Met-Ed) is a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp (NYSE: FE) that provides energy services to over 6 million customers. The corporation has ten regulated electric distribution companies that include Met-Ed, West Penn Power, JCP&L, and Penelec, among others.
Met-Ed's service area extends from the Ohio-Indiana border to the New York and New Jersey shore with over 269,000 miles of distribution lines.
Metropolitan Edison has over 560,000 electric customers in southeast Pennsylvania in a 3,300 square mile area. They serve 15 counties that include Lebanon, Cumberland, Northampton, Pike, and York, among others.

General Payment Information for Met-Ed Users
All Met-Ed customers are free to choose who supplies their electricity. Customers can choose from a number of certified electric suppliers and select the one that gives them the best rate or power plan.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission regulates the ‘Price to Compare’ for Met-Ed. The Price to Compare is the supply price offered by Met-Ed if a customer doesn’t choose another supplier. Customers can compare the rates offered by other suppliers with the Price to Compare and make an informed decision.

How to Pay Your Bill
There are five ways to pay your Met-Ed bill. You can change your payment method at any time.
- Online: You can pay your bill online by signing in to your FirstEnergy account. You can use your bank account or a debit/credit card to pay. Keep in mind that making payments with cards can incur additional fees.
- In-Person: You can pay your electric bill at authorized payment centers using cash, check, or a debit/credit card. However, keep in mind that due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), some of the payment centers may be temporarily unavailable.
- Pay by Mail: You can send a check or money order by mail.
- By Phone: You can make payments by calling the payment center, or you can use KUBRA EZ-PAY.
- eBill Electronic Billing: Enrolling in eBill will make the entire payment process digital. You will receive notifications when your bill is ready. You can then review and pay it anywhere you want. You can also set up automatic payments so that your monthly bill amount is automatically deducted from your bank account each month.

Does Met-Ed Have Payment Plan Options?
Met-Ed has several payment plan options for different customers. Here are four payment programs they currently offer.
- Payment Assistance Programs: If you have trouble paying your bills, you can apply for several payment assistance programs. You can apply for the Pennsylvania Customer Assistance Program (PCAP), LIHEAP, Dollar Energy Fund, WARM Program (LIURP), and the Customer Assistance & Referral Evaluation Services Program (CARES). - Payment Arrangements: You can opt for custom payment arrangements that suit your current financial situation. It can be an affordable installment plan with short-term payments or a long-term payment plan. You can learn more about it here.
- Extended Due Date: If you’re over 60-years old, receive a Social Security or pension check, or receive any disability assistance, you can apply for extended due dates to avoid late fees.

How to Lower Your Met-Ed Bill
You can compare Met-Ed’s Price to Compare with the rates offered by other suppliers. All utility bills can be divided into the cost of delivery and the cost of supply. You will have to pay the cost of delivery to Metropolitan Edison (FirstEnergy), but you can get a better rate for the cost of supply.

Met-Ed Account Setup
To set up your Met-Ed account, you need to register on FirstEnergy’s website.
Follow these steps to set up your new account.
- Open the registration page and enter your Met-Ed account number and your 5-digit ZIP code.
- Verify your current service address by double-checking it.
- Enter your information, including your full name, email, username, password, and pin (you can use the last four numbers of your Social Security Number as your pin).
- Confirm and verify the information and submit it.
- You will receive a confirmation email where you’ll have to click on the link provided. Your Met-Ed (FirstEnergy) account will then be ready.
